McLUU

Welcome to the world!

Cornell University is proudly built on a framework of supporting ''a diverse and inclusive campus.'' The Multicultural Living Learning Unit, known as McLLU (pronounced McClue) celebrates this foundation by providing opportunities to recognize and value our cultural differences.

McLLU, housed in Dickson Hall, was founded in 1990 by a group of students who wanted to live in a community where they could learn from a culturally eclectic group of peers – a home where everyone would be welcome to share ideas, values, and experiences.  This theme of open-mindedness has endured:  residents continue to create an inclusive and socially just community that meets the diverse needs of a global student body.

A critical part of the McLLU community is academic and social programming.  Residents participate in several established McLLU programs including “Be with B,” a monthly dinner and discussion with Professor Bekerie of Africana Studies; “Worldview,” a biweekly program led by residents, Cornell faculty, and staff that presents individual life stories about activism, expression, and culture; and “Hot Topic,” a biweekly program that encourages residents to debate and discuss controversial issues.  The McLLU community also organizes occasional trips; recent destinations have been New York City and Washington D.C.

Community features:

  • 54 residents
  • Located in Dickson Hall on North Campus, near Robert Purcell Community Center and Appel Commons
  • Single, double, and triple rooms arranged on a central hall
  • Two kitchens, a large programming space, a den, and a study lounge
